Pippins Pre-School is an independently run, charitable organisation based in the Community Room at East Markham Primary School and has been providing education through play for 2 1/2 - 5 year olds from East Markham and the surrounding villages for over 20 years.
We have a well appointed, bright classroom with a wide range of different areas providing a variety activities for children to choose from, including painting, drawing/mark making, numeracy resources, books, jigsaws, sand/water trays, small world play, construction, IT and music. We also have a very popular role-play area and many more activities and resources to support children’s learning. Your child's appointed key worker will work with you and your child, supporting your child’s development in line with the EYFS curriculum. Please click here for more details on how we implement this. We also have a very versatile ’indoor/outdoor' room that, with removable windows, can take on the role of an outdoor space with the benefit of a large degree of shielding from any weather. This can be used all year round, providing a dedicated space for our very popular home corner and role play areas. Amongst other uses, it also provides space to work quietly with groups or for one to one work, Our outdoor area is spacious and therefore gives us the flexibility to cover all areas of learning. We have a large range of facilities and activities available, including our mud kitchen, mark making boards, climbing equipment, role play and garden. The area is fenced off from the Primary School allowing us independent use of this space at all times. It also provides us the opportunity to interact with the Primary School children during their play times, proving very popular with siblings and pupils that have moved onto the Primary School. The Primary School is very supportive of our desire to provide a wide range of outdoor opportunities and allow us to use their play area, with slide and climbing/balance apparatus, as well as their tarmac play area for use with bikes or games, a large field (great for sports day) and AstroTurf, for ball games. In good weather the doors to the classroom are left open so children can be outside as much as possible. With our generous staff ratios, we are able to maintain close supervision. All areas have multiple daily health and safety checks. Safeguarding we work hard to ensure all children are cared for in a safe, happy environment. As part of this we comply with the procedures approved by the local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LCSB) Nottingham. All staff are DBS checked to ensure their suitability for working with children and they are all trained in up to date Safeguarding standards. They also undergo a thorough interview and induction period to ensure, along with our comprehensive Safeguarding Policy, that they are the right people to work at Pippins. |
EYFSPippins follows the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum. The EYFS is the statutory framework that sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are ready for school and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life. More information on how we implement the EYFS can be read here.
